Amendments were made to the original design to prepare for the future. We added the lounge at the front of the plan for when the children are old enough to want their own separate space to watch TV. We looked at a lot of display homes to get different ideas of what to include in our own plan. I need a home office and as the kids get older having a designated study area will be convenient.

We knew we wanted to start a family, which is why we wanted to come up with our own, personalised design. Normally on weekends we have a lot of family who come to stay over. A big family area was important to us. We wanted the open-space living. We try to entertain family and friends as much as we can, as we really enjoy this time. We love our barbecues. We can be preparing food in the kitchen while still feeling a part of what’s going on around us. We have seven nieces and nephews between the two of us, so we wanted to be sure we had enough space.

Our background emphasises the importance of family and we wanted a house that reflected that. In India, everyone’s always in the kitchen but it can get lonely. Now I can talk to guests relaxing in the living area while still being involved with my wife and her friends cooking. When our parents come to Adelaide to see us, they can use the spare room rather than book a hotel. When Aaesha gets a bit older and invites her friends over, she can use it for sleepovers.

After speaking to a couple of real estate agents we made the decision to build a three-bedroom home with double garage instead of a four-bedroom with a single because we were told this was often more attractive to prospective buyers. The home is certainly big enough for Gregg and I at the moment, and we don’t really use the formal lounge, but again this is something that would become more important as our family grew and for a buyer down the track. We added a bay window the bedroom because it gives you that little bit more space as well as making the facade more attractive as well.

In our last house we felt very cluttered - the dogs were kept in a tiny room and the need for a backyard was obvious. We didn’t want a corner L-shaped kitchen because it can get quite cramped and we wanted to be able to walk around easily. We needed that extra room. When we were young, Brad and I bought a property. Compared to our old place, this house is very functional.

This is our retirement house, but it is actually bigger than our previous one. We are very fortunate to have a sizeable block with views, so we built a large home with multiple living areas, including outdoors, to utilise the space and its surroundings. Daphne and I were very particular when it came to creating the kitchen. We made sure to include a wide island bench that you can sit up at without banging your knees. It was important to have a south-facing window in the studio to capture indirect sunlight. We had to flip the entire design to achieve this, but Fairmont were very flexible when it came to building exactly what we wanted.

It's hard to pick a favourite but some of them would have to be the open plan living with huge alfresco, which is great for entertaining. All of the joinery in our kitchen and bathrooms with soft close drawers. Also our custom designed, double sided walk in robe and the home theatre. We especially enjoyed the planning and selections stage as there was so much to choose from and very flexible. We also loved seeing our house come to life. Everyone we came across were lovely. As having previously built with another builder, we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of inclusions, range of selections and upgrades pricing.

We love our large master bedroom, ensuite and walk in robe. We also love the space in the kitchen, dining and living area with the great connection to the alfresco and backyard. The build process was smooth, was quite fast and our site supervisor was good to deal with and easy to contact. We built with Fairmont based on recommendations from family so we are happy to join them in recommending Fairmont. We love our home!

We absolutely love the open plan living. It's big enough that everything can still be zoned and not interrupting with noise or competing for space, but still all in the same area. It makes it such a great space for entertaining, and also really like how it flows out onto our alfresco area. Exactly what we'd hoped for. It's the second time we've built with Fairmont Homes, and on both occasions we've found it to be stress-free and the people very easy to deal with.

Our favourite feature is the stacker door system. It allows the deck, lounge and kitchen to become one big space. We loved our build experience and would love the opportunity to do it again in future. The whole process was seamless. We have recommended friends/family and those that have since built with Fairmont have also had a great experience.
