Property development: why Courtney chooses Fairmont Homes for her building projects.

As an experienced graphic designer, Fairmont client Courtney has a natural eye for creative design. But it was her passion for doodling home designs that led to her establishing a successful side business eight years ago.

With several construction projects completed and having just collaborated with Fairmont Homes once again to build a beautiful bespoke home in McLaren Vale, Courtney shows how building investment properties can be a lucrative and enjoyable pastime.

“Over the last eight years I’ve been doing small development projects with a friend as a side business, but this McLaren Vale property was my first solo project,” Courtney says.

The custom-built three-bedroom home in McLaren Vale’s coveted ‘old-survey’ area was her second construction project with Fairmont Homes. The first was her own home built in 2018, a Fairmont home that Courtney loves so much she is still living there today despite having built and sold several new properties since.

With her investment projects, Courtney has previously engaged custom and boutique building companies to bring her designs to fruition, but she found the experience left a lot to be desired. Projects went over budget and over time, and there was very little communication along the way. “But with Fairmont the price is fixed and the communication is great. I love that. Fairmont’s prices are very reasonable considering all the quality inclusions,” she explains.

Through her design and development business, Courtney manages the build projects herself from inception through to and including the sale of the property, so regular communication throughout the building phase is imperative as she strives to keep each project on a strict timeline.

Collaborating with Fairmont, Courtney says her Signature Housing Consultant Luke was great. He was able to combine a Fairmont design with her own drafted ideas to create a customised floorplan. Luke also suggested thoughtful improvements to achieve exactly what Courtney wanted, something she definitely appreciated. She also describes her site supervisor Mick as ‘amazing.’

“Fairmont are great with communication. They get in touch at least once a fortnight to provide a detailed update on the project’s progress.”

Reflecting on her experience building with Fairmont Homes, Courtney says that because she really enjoys the design aspect of building homes, she liked that she could work with Fairmont to come up with a completely bespoke design at no extra cost.

She describes the building process with Fairmont as a lot more streamlined than her last build. She particularly loved the ability to make all her selections in one place at Fairmont’s beautiful Select Home Studio. Having to visit multiple sites to make selections can be quite overwhelming and difficult for many people, but a one-stop selections studio takes all that stress away.

Courtney’s latest project has been sold at 20 Jarred Street, McLaren Vale. The feature she particularly loves with this property is something she hasn’t done in her previous construction projects, which is increasing the height of the doors and windows.

“I upgraded to 2.4m door and window heights which really helped to give the home a light and spacious feel. That was definitely money well spent.”

To others thinking of building an investment property Courtney says, “In the current real estate market you can’t really go wrong building an investment property. Construction timeframes are nearly back to pre-covid standards, and with house prices still rising it’s easy to create instant equity when doing a build as opposed to buying an established home.
