The Thomas family bring their Fairmont dream to life.

Building a new home is an experience Danica and Casey Thomas believe everyone should have at least once in their life. Despite raising a toddler and nurturing a pregnancy while building from scratch, they still say everyone should go for it.

The cup is always half full for this active young family of four. Despite being working parents to Blake and Maya now aged four and one respectively, the Thomas family and Fairmont Homes took a 565sqm patch of dirt at Vista, Seaford Heights and turned it into the family-sized “scandi-coastal” home that Danica, Casey and the kids absolutely love.

They are more than six months into living in the four-bedroom Fairmont Homes design that brought their dreams to fruition. Even while navigating parenthood during Blake’s toddler years and the birth of Maya, Casey and Danica found the building experience to be positive from the beginning. They did their due diligence, visiting all the display home villages and checking out their options before deciding to build with Fairmont Homes.

‘We did laps of all the display homes and found the best value for money with Fairmont,’ says Casey. ‘We got plenty of quotes but Fairmont were the best value for money, and pricing got them over the line.’

Their Fairmont Homes building consultant helped them find a large block of land and select the right floorplan to fit on their block. Fairmont were able to customise the design so Danica and Casey could make the bedrooms half a metre bigger to suit the block. Fairmont also had the flexibility to modify the “Westbury” design to incorporate the “Canterbury” façade with a crispy-fresh colour palette and a coastal vibe, something Danica and Casey are very proud of.

At selections they found the Fairmont staff to be very knowledgeable and friendly. Danica says, ‘we knew what we wanted, like brushed gold tapware throughout, which Fairmont were able to assist with. They also thought of things that we didn’t, which was great because we’d never built before. They made our vision come to life. And they never made us feel like we were being rushed. They were great.’

Danica and Casey chose to build in Vista, Seaford Heights because they know the area well and they like how convenient everything is. The shops, playgrounds, local café, medical facilities, daycare centre – and even the kids’ grandparents – are all within walking distance. They also enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by new houses. ‘Everything feels new, modern and vibrant,’ says Danica.

Casey’s favourite part of the home is the games room. It keeps the kids entertained and occupied, and means that all their toys are kept in one place. As the Fairmont “Westbury” design places the games room just off the open plan living area, Casey and Danica can still keep an eye on the kids while they’re in the kitchen or living space.

They enjoy entertaining, so Danica’s favourite thing is the eight metre long alfresco connected to the family living area and the games room. ‘But,’ says Danica, ‘we love it all really!’

When asked what advice they have for others who are thinking of building, they say, ‘just go for it! At least do it once if your lifetime so you have ticked that box.’

Danica says the house you build yourself is a house you will always love. ‘It is a massive achievement! You don’t really know what it will look like in the end and it can take a long time to get done, but it’s worth the wait.’
